MY LEGAL JOURNEY

It was an exciting Saturday, as ‘gentlemen on skirt’ of the Nigerian Law School Agbani trooped out in their numbers, as they converged in the maiden edition of CLASFON Ladies Monthly Meeting. A meeting that is targeted at inspiring these young ladies to greatness. The meeting was packaged by Afolabi Olabisi; the Vice president of the fellowship and her team members.
Two of our female lecturers graced the event, Mrs. Nnenna Madu (Chief Magistrate Enugu State Judiciary) and Mrs. Chinwe Umadia PhD. These two erudite lecturers shared their personal experiences and challenges faced, in their career journey.
The following are some of the highlights of the event...

CAREER
  • There are opportunities in Nigeria, only that one must be prepared to take advantage of these opportunities.
  • A Lawyer can practice law through diverse platforms, which includes: The Bench, the Bar, NGO’s, Corporate Law practice, Ministry of Justice legal department of various ministries among others.
  • One have to determine whether one really wants to practice law, since to remain in touch with law one must remain connected to legal practice.
  • One must equally determine the area  of specialization
  • The height one desire to attain, which will invariably determine the qualifications needed.
  • One must necessarily consider passion, income, and time for family; in choosing a career.

The ladies were advised to determine to be the best in whatever they choose to do, by working hard and studies; one can become outstanding and make a mark in the legal profession.

RELATIONSHIP

  • A female lawyer needs a man that will support her, since it is a vital key in marriage. A man that will not be intimidated by her success, According to Mrs Chinwe “ You can’t dull your shine for another person".
  • Let the man know your dreams and aspirations, while in courtship.
  • Pursue your dreams and aspirations and do not limit yourself by uncertain and nonexistent relationships.
  • Whoever is ordained to be with you, should find you.
  • Balance the responsibility of being first a woman, a wife, a mother and then a lawyer. Let none suffer for the other.
  • Please your husband and monitor the progress of your children.
  • No two marriages are the same, so be ready to make the most out of the circumstances that surrounds your marriage.
  • Learn to plan and effectively manage your time.

The meeting ended with the following admonishment for the ladies “Enjoy being yourself and take pride in who you are, if there is anything you don’t like about yourself, work on it. Be original and truthful to yourself. The way you appear determines the level of respect that you will attract. The way you dress and present yourself endears respect. Even with the weight of responsibility that you might have to shoulder, don’t fail to enjoy yourself. As women God have given us the grace to multi-task, we can have a successful career, wonderful family life, and fulfillment. It is just all about the decision we make.”
NB: The next Ladies Meeting Holds on 25th February 2017. Don’t miss it!

Lets Save the Future

I have been persuaded for some time now, to write on this. I strongly believe someone out there needs to hear this. One thing about being successful in warfare is adopting the right strategy; that a strategy brought success yesterday is not a guarantee that it will bring success today. Modifications are necessary to meet contemporary challenges. It is no longer news, that there is a serious battle, going on between light and darkness. Though we wrestle not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12), our authority in Christ suffices to give us victory. Unfortunately the church is distracted: worldliness has crept in; and young people are the worst hit.
